Momme (mm) is the single most important number on a silk label. The higher the momme, the heavier, denser, and more durable the silk.
The Momme Scale
6-8 mm: Sheer, tears easily. Avoid for sleepwear.
10-12 mm: Lightweight but short-lived.
16-19 mm: Industry standard for good silk.
22 mm: Noir Rouge standard. Substantial drape, opaque, durable for years.
25-30 mm: Heirloom weight, too heavy for sleep.
Why 22 Momme
At 22 momme, silk drapes like water, catches candlelight, and photographs like liquid metal. Look for 22 momme. Feel the difference.
